A very common eye condition that has been on the rise is “Computer Vision Syndrome” and it is exactly what it sounds like. How many hours per day are you on your computer? Tablet? Phone? Do your eyes ever feel tired after a few hours of use? Studies are showing that digital screens such as these radiate a “blue” light that makes its way to your eye health and cause all sorts of symptoms. These symptoms vary from eye strain, eye fatigue, dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches, and neck/shoulder pain. This blue wavelength has also been shown to reduce the amount of melatonin produced in your body causing sleep disorders after being overexposed to it before bed.
Here are some tips to avoid digital eye strain:
Turn on blue light filter on your phone. Most phones and tablets have this feature called “Night Shift”. If your device does not have this filter, there are apps available that you can download.
Apply the 20/20/20 Rule. Every 20 minutes, take a 20 second break to view something 20 feet away.
Avoid staring at your phone screen an hour before bed.
